Saturday afternoon was kind of gloomy, but Mother Nature decided to hold off raining out the racing action. There were many cars in the pits for a great night of racing action.
After an afternoon of practice sessions it was time for qualifying. Setting fast time in the late models was the point leader going into the night, Ron Maynard Junior with a time of 13.461. Derrick Griffin set the fast time for the sportsman division with a time of 14.151. The mini stock division saw Dave Biesmeyer set the pace for the second week in a row with a time of 15.160.
After qualifying was complete it was time for the autograph session. All the cars made their way out to the front straight away where they signed autographs and talked among the race fans. After the session was complete it was time for opening ceremonies.
With all of the pre-race preparations completed it was time to go racing. The first race of the night was for the adult super cup division. It was an eight lap heat with Erle Hoth taking the checkered flag. The second heat for the group went to Jamie Clos. The super cups also had a youth division on hand Saturday night and Morgan Schissel began his dominating campaign by picking up his eight lap heat win.
The sportsman followed with their heat events. Picking up the first heat win was Mike Schewchuck in the fast heat. The second heat went to Greg Gifford. The third and final heat for the class went to Kevin Clash.
The mini stock division ran two ten lap heats. The fast heat was won by Dale Oliver Sr. Jason Cogswell made a last lap pass over Shannon Buck to nab his first race win of the season.
With the heats completed and intermission in the past it was time for feature racing action. The first feature race was for the youth division of the super cups. Morgan Schissel finished off his domination by grabbing the fifteen lap event. However, a late race surge by Trenton Ensign shaked up the top three. Jake Zellmer finished second with Ensign finishing in third.
The adult super cups followed with a twenty lap feature. Jeff Myers started near the back of the field but this did not scare him from picking up the feature win. He ran down the leaders late in the event to pick up the win.
The sportsman division ran a thirty lap feature with a lot of movement throughout the field. When the checkered flag fell Mike Schewchuck got his first feature win of the 2009 racing season. Finishing second was Lou Stremme and Derrick Griffin finished in the third position.
The mini stocks were next with a twenty-lap feature event. Darin Harrell moved through the field quickly with Dave Biesmeyer in tow. Biesmeyer tried for a late race pass with no avail. This gave Harrell his second feature win of his career.
The final event of the night was the forty lap feature for the late model division. Michael Thayer moved up the field by using the high side to his advantage. Thayer made a pass in the last fifteen laps over Scott Ross to pick up the win. Shane Sanders finished in the second position and Scott Ross finished third.
