The clouds covered the sky and the rain was a constant hit and miss Saturday night at New Paris Speedway, but Mother Nature did not stop our Circle Track Hero’s from showing the fans how its done in Northern Indiana! ![]()
The first feature of the night was something new for New Paris Speedway as our Promoter, Donnie Klotz and the officials decided to combine the Pure Stock Feature and the Street Stock B Feature into one happening race. The Black No. 11 Pure Stock of Jason Weaver jumped to an early lead and dominated the race to get to the checkered flag first to win in the Pure Stock Division.
Kyle Crain No. 33 won the Street Stock B feature.
The Mini Stock B Feature saw the No. 55 of Doug Weaver starting on the inside pole with the Chris Nelson No. 21 machine to his right door. Kevin Grubb No. 14 drove his way to the front quickly to take a commanding lead. However, Grubb was soon put to the tail for speeding. After a few minor cautions and restarts, Kevin Grubb found his way to the front to take the win. After the race Kevin said, “It was disappointing to go out there and qualify a 17.7 today, but after hitting the wall last week the car just is not up to par this week. It was like driving a tank out there but I just decided to drive it to the death and we ended up with a win.”
As the skies began to darken and the lights on the track lit up, the Late Model A feature took to the track. Starting on the inside pole was Alex Pratt No. 46 to his right was Rod England No. 83 as they came to the green. The first half of the race saw a few minor cautions with everyone continuing. The big news was Ty Hayes No. 87 took his car to the front and was gone! He would go on to win with Bobby Stremme finishing 2nd, ending his four week winning streak.
The Street Stock A Feature found Sie Sharp No. 02 starting on the pole with Brian Wilkinson No. 7 to his right. This feature saw several cautions and a few torn up machines in a mess at the green flag and also in a big 8 car pile up on lap 26. Travis Schlabach jumped up to the lead quick and said goodbye to all the trouble behind him. After the win travis said “My grandfather, Rapid Robert Wiles, started racing here when New Paris opened in 1948 and every year since then at least one member of my family has been racing here.” Travis would like to thank his mom and dad who own the car and their sponsors, Klotz Lubricants and Creation Graphics. He gives a special thanks to wife Renee and their two daughters Harmony and Chloe. Thank you also to Rob Chalke for always helping out. Coming in 2nd was Keith Powell who also had the fast qualifying time. Bobby Schisler Jr. No. 17, who lost his grandfather this week, brought home the fast heat win and 3rd in the A Feature. Our condolences go to the entire Schisler Family at this time of loss.
The last Feature of the night was the Mini Stock A with David Reinberger No. 13 on the inside pole and Tim Dooley in his No. 18 on the outside. As the green flag dropped, Dennis Zimmerman No. 33 jumped into the lead until lap 7 when he had a problem and caused the first caution. Zimmerman was done for the night and the race was restarted with Jesse Schaefer No. 6 in the lead. On lap 16 Jim Anglemyer No. 6 took the lead and led to the checkered flag. Jesse Schaefer held on to 2nd place while JR. Ryman No. 17 finished 3rd.
Coming up June 27th at New Paris Speedway will be Mid Season Championships with extended features and trophies for the winners.
I would like to throw a little something in this week. There are many savvy veterans at the track who can help you go faster and safer. Watch them race, learn from them and by all means, ask questions!
Happy and Safe Racing!
