The fact that this story is even being written is a testimate to what a major accomplishment was acheived at Owosso Speedway in 2008.
In 2007, Owosso Speedway had to shut its door for one night of racing due to financial issues. As is normally the case, once the lock goes on, it doesn't normally come back off.
Fortunately for Owosso, some support funding was found which enabled the track to stay open and open for 2008. The season was clouded in doubt that the track would survive, but in July o
f 2008 Fast Track Promotion took ownership and "The Big O" sprung back to life.
Fast Track Promotions are the husband and wife teams of Rick & Jennie Miracle and Jeff & Pam Parish. With a jolt of energy and a steady hand for leadership the Miracle's and the Parish's are bringing the "fun" back to Owosso Speedway. Once again, the legendary 3/8th mile is "The Saturday Night Place to Race"
We spoke with Rick Miracle to discuss the 2009 season. Rick is excited about the upcoming season. While the main stream media preaches doom and gloom, Owosso Speedway is busy putting the final touches on a season to be remembered. In fact, as I sat in his office I was informed about a "kingly" promotion coming to the Big O. Suspicious Minds swore the MARC Times Racing News & Michigan Racing Scene to secrecy, but fans can rest assured at least one night this season they're going to get All Shook Up.
The Fast Track Promotion team is working hard on a 2009 season which will make driver's as well as fans happy. Keeping the economy in mind, but not being scared of it, Miracle said "We have been working with sponsors and advertisers for the track. The lucky number programs will have over $100 worth of coupons in them as well as prizes given out to the lucky number winners." Its that attention to detail; the penny saved is a penny earned mentality which is leading the Big O out of the darkness and into the bright lights of Saturday Night.
When asked about car counts, Miracle held little back "Some tracks may be worried about car counts. Not Owosso Speedway. We have our pit slabs nearly sold out. We are going to have full fields". This is a remarkable accomplishment when you consider just over a year ago there were nights when less then 30 cars were in the pits. Fast Track Promotion is quick to point out how incredibly blessed they were in 2008 and how much they appreciated the fact the fans and driver stuck with them through those first couple of week.
In 2009 Fast Track Promotion is looking to gain new fans and be more involved in the community. Miracle said "you will see some new ideas for race nights, like Grad Night - honoring high school and college graduates. Owosso will also be having a Kid's Carnival night, and of course we can't forget about Memphis Flash and Big Foot!"
Traditional race fans don't have to worry about the show going all carnival on them either. Miracle and Parish are thrilled about the up coming season and they believe the quality of the raceing ise essential. To that end, Rick was quick to mention the big name shows making weekly appearances at the Big O. Auto Value Bumper to Bumper Super Sprints, ASA Late Models Series, Fireworks on the 4th of July weekend and a event that will be coming in June. This can't be announced yet either, but it will rock you when they do.
And don't forget 26-time Hot Dog Champion George Harris will be defending his crown.
Owosso Speedway has a seating capacity for 3500 race fans so talk to your friends, neighbors, relatives and get these seats filled. Because the Big O is back and she really is "The Saturday Night Place to Race !"
