The Owosso Speedway 2008 Mini Stock champion Dan Gokee has been around racing all of his life. His family has been racing since 1955. Dan as a driver has three seasons under his belt. The big news for Dan this year is that he is moving up to the Pure Stock division at Owosso Speedway, and he is very excited about the upcoming season!
Off the track, Dan, age 28 is engaged to Molly and does not have any kids … yet. Dan works at Lansing's Cooper Tire. He would like to acknowledge his 2009 sponsors, Lyle's Collision of Grand Ledge and Adrenachrome - a heavy metal band featuring Dan as a guitarist. He stays busy juggling band gigs and races in his schedule.
As the 2009 season approaches Gokee’s main goal every week is simply getting to the track. "It's a lot of work, and not much money in it at our level so you do it for the love of it. I just go out to have some fun." Dan sees himself in 10 years still racing, but married with kids that might want to take after old Dad.
Dan says he would love to see this sport of auto racing grow. He would advise kids that want to race that depending on your age to either get in a ¼ midget or for the older kids start out in a Mini Stock. Get an inexpensive car get it ready and take it to the track. Once you are there many people will help you out. Everyone at Owosso Speedway is like your family and they treat you very well and will give you all the advice you need to get started and help you once you get to the track.
Have you ever wondered what is going thru a drivers mind while they are racing? Dan tries to get his rhythm going while being cautious. Sometimes he drives slower because Dan believes slower can certainly be faster. He also finds time to glance at his car’s gauges now and the on the straight-away’s while driving in championship style.
Dan expresses Thanks to his family and friends for their support, and is looking forward to a new ride in his pure stock at Owosso Speedway.
