Butlers Spring Championship Night

Butler drivers had good weather, great fans , and beautiful trophies sponsored by Countryside Trophies in Pittsford waiting for them in the winners circle Saturday night. Butlers annual Spring Championship proved to be another great night of dirt track racing in Quincy Michigan. With a trophy going to each feature winner, the competitiveness was evident from the start of the heat races till the end!

Running all five divisions brought in another great car count with over 110 cars circling the famous 3/8 mile oval in search of the gold. The late models ran two heats with Zack Olger No. 0X, Rich Ruff No. R4 finishing first. The Feature finished up with Terry Sroufe No. 12S bringing home the first of the two trophies the Sroufe family would take to their hauler.

The new modified division was screaming thru the turns as the race leader Ryan Cope No. 23C had a good run thru the front stretch and failed to yield to the car of Jon Langdon No. 17 who was making his way off the top of the track with a flat tire. Cope smashed into the rear of Langdon sending both cars to the pit for the rest of the night, and Zeke McKenzie No. 24 wasted no time in taking charge and bringing the race home.

Butlers Sprint car A main started the new field of 18 as track officials determined that will be the new car count for each feature. Gerry Hart No. 39 started on the pole for the A main and it was a tough field as the fast cars of Robinson No. 1R, Bevard No. 6, and Broughman No. 52 fought their way to the front. Good clean racing and skillful driving kept the show action packed and running smooth. Robinson No. 1R started tenth and turned it on as he would end up in the winner’s circle and claim the bragging rights as he held up the large trophy to the crowd.

The Street stock class was easily dominated by the skillful moves and steady hands of seasoned driver Terry Sroufe No. 31. Sroufe would go the winners circle for the second time tonight bringing Butler fans to their feet with cheers for their favorite driver.

The final class of the night was the Sportsman feature. D. Prater No. 53 would start on the pole, with J. Sroufe No. 14S on his outside. It didn’t take long as Sroufe laid it down and moved into the lead. Sroufe led most of the race, but got loose going into turn two and R. Page No. 0 would go low and take the lead. Page continued to hold the lead and take it to the checkered for the trophy, leaving the Sroufe family just short of a third trophy for the night.

Next Saturday night Butler Speedway presents the All Star Circuit of Championship-Late Models. The All Stars Late model show will be sure to bring great cars from all over the Midwest. General admission will be $25, for kids 6-12 $5, and pits $30. Butler will run modifieds, and street stocks as well that night. Track owners are excited to be bringing the All Star circuit again to the Butler fans and promise to put on an exciting show with lots of action packed racing! Remember gates open at 4:00 p.m., and racing starts at 7:30 sharp!
