Springport launches for 2010

Just a stone’s throw to the southwest of Eaton Rapids and north of the small town of Springport stands a diamond in the rough, the Springport Motor Speedway. In 2007, a veteran racer turned promoter, SMS Feature from 2007Maurice Randall, took the reins and led local short track racers through a successful season using unprecedented tactics at the pay window. Maurice led with honesty and integrity which fostered a mutual respect between the drivers and himself.

After a two year hiatus, Maurice is back at the helm, ready to provide racers and fans alike with a season that he built in 2007. With the experience and know-how that Randall brings to the track, 2010 will be a year of rebuilding, picking right up where he left off in 2007. Maurice is exactly what the big 3/8-mile asphalt oval needs to smooth out the rough edges and add the polish that this gem needs to make it the premier racing facility it has the potential to be.

The Springport Motor Speedway website, http://www.springportmotorspeedway.com, is up and running but is under construction, with information being added as it becomes available.

The Springport Motor Speedway official message board/forum is open to the public and a good place to get information and interact with the track promoter : http://forum.springportmotorspeedway.com/

Maurice has posted the 2010 schedule of events, which will include the Pony Stock division, as well as the debut of an ABC Stock Car Series, which will include Pure Stocks, Street Stocks and Sportsman. Drivers will qualify then race in an A-, B- or C-Main based on qualifying times. This format will operate with very sparse rules (see website for details), but will keep safety first and foremost, thus providing fans with very close, exciting racing. Randall has lined up one traveling series to race each week. These series include VROA (vintage modifieds), Great Lakes Minicups, MCR Dwarfs, Bishop Performance Legends Club, and the United States Super Trucks. Autograph Night, Kid’s Night (with bike giveaway) and the fifth installment of the ever popular Racin’ and Rockin’ will round out an action-packed schedule.

The first practice of the 2010 season will be held Saturday, April 10th, from 3 – 7 PM, followed by a second session on Thursday, April 15th, from 4 PM - Sundown. Pit slabs will be free for the entire season. Maurice has offered every driver and their girlfriend, boyfriend, wife or husband a unique opportunity, as both the driver and their partner will pay a $10 registration fee, and on race day, the driver buys a $25 pit pass, while the significant other gets in free. Children will be admitted at a reduced rate as well, thus keeping racing a family affair.

Opening night at the Springport Motor Speedway is Saturday, April 17th. Racing action will begin at 6 PM for the month of April, into May. Once the evenings grow warmer, racing will begin at 7 PM. General admission gate prices will be $12 for ages 13 and up. Seniors will be admitted at a discounted rate, while other gate prices have yet to be determined. To all race fans and drivers alike, mark April 17th on your calendars and help Springport Motor Speedway race into 2010 and beyond.
