Sometimes in business, the best path forward is to take a glimpse into your past and repeat what was successful.
For Springport Motor Speedway, that means a return of track manager Maurice Randall.
Jim Leasure, Steve Martin and Maurice Randall have reportedly entered into a lease arrangement which will return Springport Motor Speedway to Randall's leadership and management under a 2 year lease option.
Steve Martin is the owner and promoter of the Midwest Classic Racing Dwarf Series (MCR Dwarfs) and a long time respected operator in the Michigan Short Track community.
Maurice Randall speaking in a live chat held at http://chat.speedwaymail.net/ stated the handshake deal was done and that himself and Steve would be communicating the future of the speedway in more detail in the coming month, but there was a lot of information presented in the meeting.
First and foremost was that Randall and Martin had a handshake deal completed with Jim Leasure.
Secondly, the track was targeting an grand re-opening date of April 17th, 2010.
The preliminary discussion of classes circulated around a A-B-C Street Stock format, similar to the rules used at Flat Rock Speedway successfully in their Street Stock Class. The Front Wheel Drive class will also be featured most likely using a set of rules which closely resembled Spartan's Pony Stock class. Modifieds and Late Models will not be weekly classes and likely will run a very limited schedule if at all.
Steve Martin plans on ma
king the facility very attractive to traveling series which are having a difficult winter scheduling tracks. Traveling Series which Martin anticipates will take advantage of his offer include the U.S. Truck Series, MCR Drawfs, VROA Vintage Modifieds, SuperPro, Great Lakes Super Cups and more.
Springport traditional events "Racin' & Rockin' " and "Michigan Cup" would return to for the 2010 season, with a penciled in date of July 17th, 2010 for Racin & Rock'n and September 17th, 24th or November 1st for Michigan Cup. More then likely, race fans will see a return of the popular 60 lap "Pit Stop Races" and there will be some consideration given to running some Enduro type events.
Class rules and payouts have yet to be determined, but they will be published in the month of January so teams can start making plans.
Maurice stated the new website will be up shortly
