In 1985, a young and upcoming driver began his racing career. Todd Foote, a member of the well known Foote racing family, started off his career in the Road Warrior division at the Galesburg Speedway. This division is similar to todays Street Stocks.
In his career, Todd has ran in the Mini-stocks, Roadwarriors, Sportsman, Limited Latemodels, and most recently the Modifieds. Todd has always ran throughout his career with the no.10. " It was K.C's (Todd's son) number in youth hockey", said Todd. " I've never ran any other number", he added.
The Foote family has traditionally had some member of their family involved, either working or racing at Galesburg Speedway since the tracks first year of existance. "Racing has always been in my families blood", said Todd. "My grandfather, my father, my uncle, my brother", Todd added. Even his son K.C, has been racing for a few years. Ironically, K.C runs the no.44, which was Todd's number as a youth in rocket football.
Tood has enjoyed success for many years, winning his first championship in the Limited Latemodel division at the Galesburg Speedway. Although it was a very special time for him, his most memorable moment was his Kalamazoo Speedway Championship, he captured in the Sportsman division in 2006. " It was awesome getting my picture in a Nascar magazine, I also received a plaque", said Todd.
Off the track, Todd has had success as well. First, owning a chain of Quick Lubes for about three years. Most recently, starting up Victory Tire and Auto in Comstock.
Todd and his family are also involved in the Race For Kids Sake Charity. Always short on time, Todd helps out as much as possible when it comes to the children. Todd has helped out with race-car shows to promote children reading over the summer, and also the Curious Kids Program.
Slowing a bit due to health issues, Todd relies on a great group of guys who always have his back. Skeeter reed, who Todd says"is the back bone of their racing program". Others include; Brett Nash, John Brannum, Chris McMichael, Steve Smith, David Chamberlein, Keith Reed, and last but not least Pops ( Todd's father in-law ). In the past, Tony Britton, Adam Britton, and Jason west also provided their pit services.
Not to be outdone, Todd's sponsors also have been a huge support to this race team.Van Egon Greenhouses, Todd's first ever sponsor, was among many. "Roto-Rooter, Burger King, Kevin and Aaron Smith, were all great sponsors we were fortunate to have help from through the good, the bad, and the ugly", says Todd.
Todd appreciates his family, friends, and sponsors. "I appreciates people coming out to the local tracks, fan support is huge", says Todd. "I love everything about racing, mostly the commerodery of a close knit group. The compition at every track I've raced , I've tried to pattern myself after the old school drivers, who would race you hard, but still be respectful", said Todd.
Todd has huge respect for guys like Andy Bozell, Harry Foote Jr., and Gary Howe. "I've learned alot from these men", says Todd. Trying to pass on his knowledge of the sport, Todd adds, " to the new and upcoming drivers, I would tell them to get to the track, get in the pits and ask questions".
A normal race week consists of working on the car three nights a week. With problems or major changes, sometimes all week. "Theres alot of work to be done to do well", says Todd.
"Theres alot of sacrifices throughout the race season, mostly family", says Todd. Wife Holly, sons K.C. and Brandon, and daughter Brianna have to miss out on time with Todd. Outside racing, Todd said," I love to spend time with my kids at the lake". Todd enjoys fishing, deer hunting, and playing Texas holdem. Those who know todd well, know he is as competative at bowling as he is in his racecar.
Todd picked 2010 as his last year of racing. "I'm 99% sure", says Todd. he went on to say," I'm not going to quit racing, just the driving". K.C. will assume the driving duties, while a second car team may come into the plans. " I plan on being involved as much as my health allows ", says Todd. There has never been a moment that made Todd feel he should walk away from the sport. He does recall however, a time in which his father ( Harry Foote Jr. ), had a roll over in a violent crash. " I remember thinking, I don't know if he will be able to bounce back from this", said Todd. But, the elder Foote did return to have a tremendous career. With this kind of determination, you can see why Todd, and the rest of the Foote clan have enjoyed so much success at the local Michigan short tracks throughout the years. Hopefully, this will be past down to the next generation.
You can come out to the Galesburg Speedway this season, watch Todd run in the Late Model division. Sit back and enjoy a veteran at the top of his game. See some great racing action from an old school proffesional.
