Last weekend I had the opportunity to watch the racing at Galesburg Speedway. I was welcomed with open arms by the Warning family. As I entered the gates the staff was friendly, and more than happy to joke around with the entering race fans. We got there early so we were sure to get some prime seats.
While walking the midway I was checking out all of the food options, such as funnel fries at the pit stop cafe, popcorn at the concession stand, and a cheeseburger basket with chips, cake and 20 oz. pepsi product for only $6.00 fresh from the outside grill. Of course you cannot miss the novelty booth filled with souvenier t-shirts, crazy noise making toys for the kids along with things that flash more colorful lights than a U.F.O. That is also where they sell the MARC Times Racing News & Michigan Racing Scene.
We took to our seats to watch qualifying. Right from the get go it is obvious that they are strict on their time line, as everything ran smooth, and fast. Oh I did not mention I was able to meet Rick Partanen and his family. I was glad I got the chance to talk to them and hope we all get to see each other again soon. Rick is doing a fantastic job covering the speedways for the paper.
My family decided while there was a short break, to head to the grill for some dinner. Three cheeseburger baskets and one brat basket. Tender, and juicy is all I can say. I have been going to Galesburg for many years, and that along with the tight action packed racing, is what I look forward to when we head there. From what I heard during qualifying, track records were being broken left and right, so you know what that means, FAST racing and tough competition.
Again sticking with the time frame the track staff kept things moving right along. In case anyone wondered, the track safety crew is on the ball. They were Johnny-on-the-spot when ever there was an on track incident. They also do a fantastic job keeping the track free and clear of dirt, debris, and any other possible racing spoiler.
Their announcer did a great job knowing just what to say and has the timing that some comedians don’t even have. He kept the show very entertaining.
