Track Packed as rain misses Galesburg

Fans packed the stands Saturday night at the Galesburg Speedway with tracks all across Michigan canceling due to cold rainy weather. Galesburg held out to see three track records broken.  The fans dealt with the cool temperatures that came on near the start of the program to see some fine racing.

The Pure Stock division saw the first record brake of the season John Foote Jr. No. 11 set a new track record at 15.879.  "We've been working on the car every week. Put little cross in it because it was loose in hot laps," said Foote.  "The track is starting to come in," he added.

The dash saw second quick Donnie Ritter No.86 make his way to the front.  Ritter passed Michael Kerber No. 38 for the win.

In the Heat Bryon Noble No. 37 pulled out the victory as he made his way by Douglas Wilhelm No. 3 to take the checker.

The most exciting Feature of the night came out of the Pure Stock Division as John Foote, Jr. and Donnie Ritter traded the lead back and forth through out the race.  Lapped cars came into play as the leaders switched in and out of the lead.  Ritter ultimately pulled out the win as he beat Foote to the line.  "The car is fast, it was on a rail tonight.  I love the door to door racing like that" said Ritter.  "Johnny drove me clean, it was fun." he added.

In the Late Models, Jesse VanAvery No. 38 qualified at 14.141 breaking the long time track record held by John "Torch" Osterhouse. "Car felt good, changed a bunch of things on the car this week, rear springs etc," said VanAvery.  The new track record was short lived however as about five cars later, previous record hold "Torch" Osterhouse No. 27 took back the track record with a time of 14.031.  "I knew it was fast, if felt super," Torch said.

In the dash Marty Crawford No. X got the win just a week after finishing runner up in the feature. The win was Crawford's first of the season.

Heat 1 had last weeks feature winner Scot Rugg No. 49 pull away from 2nd place finisher Adam Van Avery No. 2 and the rest of the field to pick up his 3rd win of season.

Heat 2 saw another first time winner as Jacob Hopwood No. 81 got his Late Model out in front.  Hopwood held off 2nd place finisher Lucas Krick No. 9 who was charging fast.

In the feature, Krick would not be denied the victory.  Krick held off Scott Rug at the drop of the green flag and cruised to his first Late Model feature win of the 2009 season. Randy Day No.1 finished 3rd in his unplanned trip to Galesburg.  Jeff Vochaska No. 45 finished 4th just a head of Jesse VanAvery No. 3 who rounded out the top 5.  "Our car was tight tonight," said Rugg. "We had nothing for Luke [Krick]," he added.

The Sportsman division had some great finishes, as well as one lucky finish.

Matt Frazier No. 97 won his first dash of the season, just one week after pulling off his first ever feature win.  Once again Frazier held off hard charging Jim Woodin No. 32 who finished 2nd.

Heat 1 had Brent Webster No. 88XL holding off Ada Drobny No. 98 for the hard fought victory.  In heat 2 Alan Reaume No.3 could not hold off the challenge from Harold Smith No. 8. Smith went on to his first ever victory at the Galesburg Speedway. The Sportsman feature was disastrous for last weeks feature winner Matt Frazier who spent just as much time in the pit as he did on the track during the race. Woodin however would not be denied this week as he went out and put on a racing clinic.  Woodin weaved in and out of lap traffic to pull out his first feature win of the season.  The win came however at a cost. "There was good and bad in this race," said Woodin.  He went on to explain, "Soon as I took the checkered flag, the oil pressure hit zero.  I let the car coast to the winner circle, it’s probably the oil pick up, I don’t know.” What a lucky finish.

The Mini stock division saw more bad luck for fast qualifier Mike Govier No. 46 although the dash had Govier finishing second to Jeremy Collins No. 5.

The heat race had Jeff Presock No. 10 holding off Scotty Hitt No.3 to take the victory.

The Featrue Race was in trouble from the drop of the green.  bumping and banging or the first few laps finally caused giber problems as there was a pile up into the all just fefore the start, finis, as if the accident wasn't bad enouh, quick actin flag man, Derek Lott had jumped down from his flag stand and went into the rescue mode.  Lott pulled out Prescock, and one other driver.  Lott's quick actions go over looked by some the track staff becomes real important to you in your time of need.  The Galesburg cre has gone above and beyond, especially in the past two seasons.  The Accident colledt fast qualifier Govier ending his 2nd straight feature on the back o a wrecker.  When racin gresumed, Rick Gale (no.0) got around Rick Mann Sr. (no.51) for the lead.  Gale ran strong all feature long.  Gale looked to become the race winner until a last lap pass by dash winner Jeremy collins, spoiled the celebration.  Collins on the second win of the night after motor problems the previous week.  "I blew the motor last week, then came out and won the dash and the feature", said Collins.  "the tracks descent", added Collins.

The Burg Stock had two first time winners. In the heat race, Johnny Hyder (no.41) heldoff hard charging Aaron Rheinsburg (no0) to make his way back to the winner circle for the first time in the Burg stock division.

The feature also had a frst time Burg Stock winner Jake Thompson (no.50j), who held off any attempt eary on in the race.  Thompson pulled away to decisive victory.  Rheinsburg got around Hyder for Second, with Ed Clawson (no.8) beating out Jamie Handcock (no.77) for fourth.

Fans definately enjoyed what they saw, as they endured the cold Mchign night to see the outcome of every race.  he stands were still packed at theend of the night as the racing was action packed.  Come out t see the full 5 in 1 show every Saturday Night at the Galesburg Speedway.
