Racing has always been in his blood. Following in the footsteps of his brother and his father, Adam VanAvery has climbed into the Late Model division for his first full season.
" Its the family business", said VanAvery, speaking of how he got into racing. Entering his fifth season at the Galesburg Speedway, Adam has been a serious competitor in the past. His series best third place in the Sportsman division, came in the 2007 season.
Now in 2009, Adam has his sight set on the Late Model division. " The competition is great here at the track ", said VanAvery. " The adrenaline is the best thing about racing ", he added.
The adrenaline was definitely kicking in as two of Adam's favorite racing moments came in the Sportsman division. " My two Feature wins ", said Adam. " One in 2007, the other in 2008 ", he recalls. " Anytime you can beat Jim ( Jim Woodin No. 32), you know you've done well ", he added.
" My dad of course is a big part of my success. He knows alot about racing", says VanAvery. Adam also receives help from his friends, Mike Knoblock and Wes Allen. " We put in two to three nights a week on the car ", said Adam, speaking of his dad Roy, brother Jessie, and friends. " Sometimes more on those bad weeks "' he added.
One of the bad weeks he remembers was in 2006. " The Sportsman division, I got caught up in an incident on the front stretch and got put right in the wall ", he recalled.
Adam doesn't plan on getting out of racing anytime soon. The twenty-four year old VanAvery says he loves the sport. Outside racing, Adam enjoys both softball, and bowling. Finding time for the three sports only when he is not working as a furniture mover.
Adam runs with the No.2 on his car, although the No.5 would be his first choice. " John Thrashers number was two, and this is his old car that I run ", said Adam. Adam plans to run the Kalamazoo Klash as well as The Super Shoe at seasons end.
You can see Adam VanAvery and the rest of the VanAvery clan, every Saturday night at the Galesburg Speedway. Dont miss out on some great racing action.
