KALAMAZOO - With the races season less then a mouth away. The Kalamazoo Speedway is gearing up for another great race season.
Gary and Donna Howe, now entering their ninth season as owners, are optimistic of the 2009 season. With the issue of the economy plaguing us all, the Howe's feel they have a few wasy to get the fans in the stands this summer.
The Howe's plan on their drivers to be their number one marketing partner. Drivers will voluntarily hand out Kalamazoo Speedway yard signs to promote the track. Four to Five times this season, drivers will be given ten free passes to give away. the driver with the most tickets used at the track will win Hooosier racing tires.
The Speedway will offer children, Eleven and under, free entry throughout the season. The track will offer a few Low Dough shows for just $9.00 also. The biggest discount will be another Low Dough show with admission being just $5.
The howe's hope this will help sell the local events. Howe said, "with this economy, we need to help our local short tarck speedways." Howe also went on to say "Not just kalamazoo, but all our local speedways."
Speaking locally, Gary and Donna have owned Howe Patio and windows for the past six years. Raicng however, is the family favorite. The whole family helps run the track. Gary runs the top side, while Donna runs the bottom side. The bottom being the hardest, with the scoring duties. Other Howe family members help out in the ticket sales and refreshments
The schedule has plenty of fan favorites lined up for the season. The night of Destruction will be on the list of events, as it was considered the highlight of 2008 for most fans. There will be other events sure to pleaso also. There will be a Memorial Day double header. this will consisit of af an ALL-STAR shootout race of some of the top Super Late Models and the Pure Stocks.
While nothing significant will change a far as safety in 2009, the Speedway will try to bring down the decible level. "While we're not currently violationg any township rules, we dont'want to cross that line." says Howe.
Howe also shared that 1995, 1996 Super Late Model Champion, Mike VanSparrentak, will once again don a racing fire suit and helmet to go racingt. this will be exciting for all his fans.
You can meet Gary and Donna Howe , as well as some of the Kalmazoo Speedway drivers at the April 4th event that kicks off the spring. the Meet and GReet Open House, which is free to the publi 7pm-10pm, as the St. Mary's school in otsego.
So come join Gary, donna and the rest of the Howe Family at the SAturday Night Entertainment hotspot. The Kalamazoo Speedway. Come out and support your local speedways.
