With the new year just around the corner, we are starting to see the 2010 rules packages coming out at various race tracks. This week it was the release of the 2010 rules from Kalamazoo Speedway.
Gary Howe stated last year, they are trying to implement as few rule changes for any of their 5 classes as they can. Gary says that "We understand changes cost drivers money, but with any rules package, there are changes that need to be addressed to keep the playing field as even as possible and above all, to keep the future of this sport affordable."
With that in mind folks are going to find a couple of weight adjustments, better clarifications for a couple different rules, a clear explanation of what will be allowed concerning some of the run-away body rules, and even a RPM limit for Kalamazoo's Super Late Models. Any of these rule tweaks will be a minimal expense if any and are for the sole reason of trying to help control the spending.
Gary went on to say "We are well aware that one of the biggest expenses that have over taken the short track industry is the “shock technology”. At this point right now, this new age shock program is almost impossible to police and would only cause chaos. However, we do know that several shock companies are aware of this issue & we expect to start seeing some companies develop a non-tamper proof shock that will probably be implemented into short track racing across the country in the near future."
We reviewed the posted 2010 rules and noted the changes.
In their general rules section they address the loudness of cars:
80% of you listened to our noise concern policy & made the needed adjustments. For the other 20%, do notshow up with the same exhaust system if you were told numerous times that you were too loud. We will bechecking the noise level the same way we did in 2009 & you are more than welcome to have a crew person upin the announcers stand during qualifying when we are checking the noise level. Again, we will be checkingcars on a weekly basis and no car over 101 decibels will be racing. You will have 1 warning, and after that youwill be on the trailer….no exceptions.
The also posted a mandatory RaceCeiver implimentation program for 2010 & 2011:
Raceceiver’s are required for all Late Models, Modifieds and new for 2010, for all Sportsman Cars as well. These are a great safety feature and have worked great for lining up cars & getting the show back to racing. At anytime during a race, if a driver does not have a Raceceiver in place, you will be blacked flagged & bedone competing in that race.Kalamazoo's Cyberstock drivers are now required to purchase a NASCAR license :
Kalamazoo Speedway is a NASCAR sanctioned track and all drivers in all 5 weekly classes arerequired to purchase a NASCAR License before your first week of competition. Contact thespeedway office for application forms.speedway office for application forms.
Below were some clarifications to wording of rules :
If you are black flagged for going over your time in a heat, your time & position will be adjusted for your next event, but you will not bump into the inversion. If you are black flagged during a feature event forgoing over your time, we will send you to the tail of the lead lap cars and you can continue to finish that race.
On a yellow or red flag that happens on the start of a race, any car(s) that enter the pits will go to the tail of the field, even though a full lap has not been completed.
No mirrors or radios of any kind, beside the mandatory use of the Raceceiver.
Lead ballast will be painted white with the car number on each piece.
Two items that will be enforced in 2010 - All wheels will have a 2” decal with your cars number onthem, and no tires will be changed on any wheels that are not properly numbered. Also, all fuel cellcaps shall have your car number on them.
Rookie Status is as follows: To be eligible for a Rookie of the Year status in any class, you can’t competein that said class for any more than 6 events during the past 5 seasons.
