Saturday night was Sportsman Madness as Kalamazoo hosted a 50-lap feature race for the Sportsman class and the racing was outstanding. It seemed as though the number 7 wasn't lucky though as three accidents on different restarts kept the race at only seven laps for a half hour. Last years champion Courtney Weston No. 23 dominated the lead position for the entire race but had pressure from Tom Rutherford No. 47 in the final laps. Courtney made contact with a lapped car with two laps to go and either the sheet metal or the cars decal was ripped back just behind the left front tire. This may have been a distraction for him and Tom was able to complete his pass on the last lap. His crew erupted in the stands as their driver took the checkered flag for only his second feature win in the Sportsman division. Rutherford said, "I didn't know if we were going to get him, we were faster than him. We've been fast lately but we were off a little bit tonight. Got lucky I guess with the lapped traffic."
The Late Model feature was a clean fast paced race. The points lead may have changed again after the race was finished. Going into the night Andy Bozell was the point leader after the double feature night. During that double feature Terry Senneker Jr. No. 37 lost the lead after a bad night of crashes. Senneker was back to his old ways and with what seemed to be a great car. Taking the win over Phil Bozell No. 8 Terry sounded relieved in his victoy lane interview. Talking to Terry at the end of the night I wanted to know if this car was back to where it was before the double feature night. Terry said, "I feel like it is. We took our time and went through it carefully. We came and did some testing and the biggest problem we had was when we came and did the testing we thought we gained a bunch. Then we came to the race the following weekend we did gain as much as we though we did."
The Modified feature was a three way battle to the end. A hard accident in the race that shot a car over the rear tire of another and on top of the driver's window. After the clean up was done and the green was about to come out, the leader Kyle VanSarrentak No. 68v had a sputter in the engine. With only a handful of laps to go there was question whether or not his engine would hold together. Kyle held on and took the win over Michelle Sexton No. 7 by a few car lengths. Kyle, "I knew I had problems from lap one." With a borrowed engine Kyle was able to keep it together.
The Pure Stock feature was a great race all the way to the finish. Two cars were unable to run their qualifying laps and one of them was the points leader Matt Noble No. 3 who, along with Travis Hall No. 22, had to start near the back. Lloyd brooks was bumper to bumper with the leader Seth Moody No. 48. After a slight tap to Moody, Brooks took the lead and took his third feature win of the season. Brooks said, "I hated getting into Seth like that. I tapped him the lap before to let him know I was there and he moved up a little bit. Next lap I tapped him again and he moved up again and I knew I had to go because Matt and Travis were behind me coming hard." After a great run Lloyd will likely walk away with the points lead heading into the Pure Stock Cash Bash on August 1.
"Get in buddy, keep me safe, lets go for a ride"
