Who is “T Man”?

Travis Hall best known as “T Man” to everyone around the track has been competitively racing since 1997. Travis got his nickname from a friend and it has stuck over time. He says his friend is the type of guy that will help him out no matter day or time, “I could call him right now and he would be here.” Travis is easily noticed in his purple and white No. 22. When asked why purple? “No body else has it. You’ve got a lot of blacks, lots of blues, and reds. I’ve raced out here about ten years and about the last four or five years I’ve been purple. Let everybody else have the hot colors and let us be different than everybody.”

Travis started racing in Factory Stocks, which has transitioned into the Sportsman class but has since moved into the Pure Stock class where he is seventh in the points. When asked about how he got his start he said, “Started in the big car endures. I always had motorcycles, four wheelers and everything but nothing led up to it. My dad raced years ago and all my uncles, they raced here when there no walls, just guard rails.” In racing there is no guarantee and that is especially true when it comes to wrecks. When asked about his worst wreck he said, “In 2002, the first time they put up that wall they wrecked in front of me while I was running fifth. I got hit in the right rear and it put that tire right beside me. It was a junked car after that. We had worked all winter long and that was the second week of racing.”

Currently Travis calls Delton home, just outside of Plainwell. During the week Travis is a diesel mechanic for Gull Lake Schools, “We do everything in house from engines to brakes, you name it. I wrench day in and day out.” Outside of racing and work Travis does a lot of fishing. Spending a little time on his boat gets him away from the faster pace of life.

The one thing I noticed while walking with Travis is that people are glad to see him. His easy-going personality along with his willingness to help out the guy next to him says a lot about him. He doesn’t seek attention at the track but is always willing to talk.

Even his closest competitors are grateful for his help. There is no doubt the reason people are waiting for him at his trailer when he finishes a race.

Travis is sponsored by Brooks Archery, Unique Design & Signs, Tucker Tax Services, Lindsey Construction Company, Allegan Trans & Auto, Cereal City Auto Parts, Riverfront Chiropractic, and Cynthia McVicker with Century 21. Look for Travis in the Pure Stock division at Kalamazoo Speedway on Saturday nights. To get a full racing schedule visit www.kalamzoospeedway.com
