Stremme - A True Racing Family

Bobby Stremme is a part of one of Michigan's true racing families.  Bobby got his start in racing at age fifteen.

" It was only two races in an Impala, I believe it was the Street Stock division ", said Bobby.

Bobby's whole family is part of the racing background in Michigan.

" My dad's uncle use to race back in the 60's.  He actually got killed in a race car ", said Stremme.  He went on to say, "My dad started racing in '83, at age thirty ".

The whole family runs all over with No.53, or No.35.  " My dad ( Lou ) ran No.53 when he started racing.  David was five, I was three at the time ", recalls Bobby.  His brother David ran No. 35 on all his local Late Model cars.  Dont think mom ( Cindy) just sits back and cheers, as she also gets into the racing action with a Street Stock of her own.

" Mom, dad, brother, my cousin, and Mike Shewchuk, who I also think of as family.  We all love to race, its a family thing ", said Stremme.  " Its the adrenaline rush, no matter how fast you get, you always want to get better ", adds Stremme.

Racing as much as the family does, can take its toll on the rest of the family.  " I work on the car for four hours a day, sped another four with my wife and kids ", explains Stremme.  " When running A.S.A., the family would come visit me at the shop.  There was nights I wouldn't get home til eleven ", Stremme recalls.

Now days, Bobby runs for car owner, and friend Mike Shewchuk.  " If not for Mike, I wouldnt be racing, theres just no way ", admits Bobby.

Bobby runs occasionally at M40 Speedway on Friday nights.  Hes racing for points on Saturday night at New Paris Speedway.  " If it don't get any better, I'm going to stop stressing, an just have fun ", said Stremme.

Stremme has enjoyed success, as h has raced all over and in many divisions.  " Ive run Mini-Stocks, Pure Stocks, Pro-stocks, Street Stocks, Late Models, Modified, A.S.A. Late Models, and Dwarfs ", said Stremme.  He went on to say, " Ive enjoyed the most success running Late Models...I love them.  Theres nothing better than running a Late Model locally ".

One of Bobby's special moments came at Berlin Speedway.  Bobby had qualified his A.S.A. Late Model, second quick behind only Brian Campbell.  " With twenty laps to go, I caught him an passed him on the outside.  I had to do it again, because the yellow came out.  I ended up pulling away by ten car lengths ", recalls Stremme.

On the flip side, Bobby also recalls a not so great moment, " It was 2007 Super Shoe, i won the fast heat, and the dash for cash.  Running third, eightteen lap in, the motor blew.  I ended up collecting two other cars.  You feel bad, but theres nothing you can do ".  Bobby also recalls, " We lost the motor, and the rear clip.  You go from such a high, to such a low ".

2007 was a rough year for big races as Bobby also recalls, " M40's big $30,000 show.  I got right reared by the pole-sitter, he put me head on into the wall ".

Bobby has since bounced back and continues to run strong.  As far as his racing future, Bobby said, " Honestly I don't know.  I'm going to run as much as I can, when I can, as hard as I can ".  He added, " When I cant drive anymore, that's when I call it quit ".

Stremme doesn't want to get out of racing entirely.  " If I can afford it, I would like to own a car, if I cant race no more.  When it comes that time, my kids will drive it, or somebody ", said Stremme.

Bobby Stremme knows it takes alot to be successful, his success is due to help from friends, family, and crew ( dad, mom, brother, Emery Lanway, Craig Ferrara, Rick Bruder, and Mike Shewchuk ).

Bobby's advice for the younger drivers just starting out, " Use your head, learn the track, learn the car.  Don't buy your way in.  Work on the car, drive it, but you've got to learn ".

Bobby loves the sport of racing, but would like the pay to be better.  " Pay better, like they did seven, eight years ago.  Like it says on the back of my dads car, the longer I race, the less they pay ", said Stremme.

Mentioning his dad, Bobby went on to say, " I respect him alot, Im going to hate the day I see him quit ".

A true racer, from a true racing family.  One of the best Michigan has to offer.  Come out on Friday night, at the M40 Speedway, or Saturday night at New Paris Speedway.  treat yourself to some of the best racing, from one of the Stremme Family's best drivers.
