After a successful weekend of test and tune this past Saturday and Sunday, officials are now preparing for the 2010 lid lifter at Midvale Speedway. The action will get underway this coming Saturday night, April 17 at 6:30.
Many of the attendees this weekend were using the transponders for the newly installed scoring system. Fastest was 2009 Late Model point champion Bubba Smith with a 14.289, a lap that was turned on Sunday. Kevin McClintock, last year’s Sport Stock champ, was fastest in the practice with a 15.548. Joe Oliver set the fastest Pure Stock time with a 16.357. Though he wasn’t last year’s champ, the car was, as Oliver purchased it from Todd Miller just a couple of weeks ago. Rounding out the regular division competitors was Jesse Page in the Compacts with a 17.822. There were also a lot of drivers practicing without transponders, so their laps were not figured in.
Among the changes for this year will be double file restarts in feature action. Previously, the track utilized a top three single file, rest of the field double file restart formation. The new rule will be on a trial basis for the first few weeks.
Another change instituted immediately will allow Compact drivers to run a 15”, 70 series minimum tire. 13” and 14” tires are still accepted, but many teams/drivers are having a harder time finding available tires in those sizes.
Transponders are still available at the track for sale, for those that would like to install before this Saturday’s opener. Drivers must have them installed and working for practice this Saturday or they will be sent pitside without running any laps.
Pit gates open at 2:00, hotlaps and grandstands at 3:00, qualifying at 4:30, and racing at 6:30. Grandstand admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors 62+, $8 for kids 6-15, and children 5 and under are free. Pit admission is $25 for members and $30 for non-members.
