Officials from Winchester Speedway and track promoters Champion Racing Association (CRA) have released the 2010 schedule for the legendary high banked ½ mile track in East Central Indiana. Speedway owner Charlie Shaw has secured CRA to promote and manage the Speedway again in 2010 after five successful seasons of that company’s management of the tracks events. CRA leaders R. J. Scott, Glenn Luckett and Greg Wood have prepared a diverse and entertaining seven-event schedule based on the successful events in 2009.
After an open practice on Saturday, May 1st, the season will open on Sunday, May 2nd with the high-powered CRA Super Series Late Models on the famous High Banks. It will be the first of three CRA Super Series events at Winchester Speedway again in 2010, this will be the first opportunity for teams to prepare for the 39th Annual Winchester 400 in October. The season opener will also feature racing action from the CRA Street Stocks and Vore’s Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compacts.
The King Of The Wing Sprint Car Challenge will hit the high banks on Sunday, May 23rd, featuring the new and exciting mustseeracing.com Xtreme Sprint Series. This event is the first leg in the Battle of the Banks, which will also include the mustseeracing.com Xtreme Sprint Series event at Anderson Speedway on Wednesday, May 26th, and the mustseeracing.com Xtreme Sprint Series sanctioned Little 500 on Saturday, May 29th at Anderson Speedway. Florida ace Dave Steele will look to defend the crown he earned by winning the 2009 King of the Wings Sprint Car Challenge! This event will also feature racing action from the CRA Street Stocks and Vore’s Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compacts.
On Saturday night June 26th Winchester Speedway will have it’s Second Annual Night of Destruction that will include stunts, crashes and thrills on the famous High Banks. Last seasons inaugural event was a huge hit with the fans and the competitors involved. A Fireworks Show will be part of this thrilling event in 2010, more details will be coming soon!
The 4th Annual Family Fun Day at the Track will return on Sunday, July 18th and will once again be a special day for local race fans to enjoy a full day of racing action with free admission for kids 12 and under. Racing action will be provided that day by the exciting USA Modified Series, the CRA Late Model Sportsman Series and the Vore’s Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compacts, plus new for 2010, Bike Races for kids!
The traditional Old Timers Weekend will take place on Saturday and Sunday, August 21st and 22nd, featuring the Rich Vogler Classic for the exciting USAC National Sprint Cars as the main event in Sunday’s racing action. The Old Timer Cars, which will be on display all weekend and on the track doing laps for all the fans to see. There will be open practice on Saturday with a party that night with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Bristol event on television. Also racing on that Sunday will be the SuperPro Crate Late Model Series and the Vore’s Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compacts.
The historic World Stock Car Festival is scheduled again on Labor Day Weekend and will once again feature a great combination of racing, camping, music and parties. Saturday, September 4th will be an open practice day for all cars and the grandstands will be free to the public. Sunday and Monday, September 5th & 6th will see up to seven different stock car divisions compete for their World Stock Car Festival crown. The CRA Super Series Late Models will headline the action, along with the USA Modified Series and the United State Super Trucks. The weekend will also include racing for the CRA Late Model Sportsman Series, CRA Street Stocks and Vore’s Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compacts. There will be practice, qualifying, heat races and a CRA FWD Compacts feature event on Sunday.
Monday will be features only for a full afternoon of racing action for up to a possible seven different divisions. There will be the traditional Labor Day Weekend party in the pavilion on Sunday night, always one of the biggest of the season that you won’t want to miss!
On Sunday, October 17th Winchester Speedway will see the CRA Super Series return for the prestigious 39th Annual Winchester 400, an event that has seen top racers from all over the country and NASCAR stars come to challenge the High Banks for the grueling 400 lap shootout. After a long day of racing it was NASCAR competitor Kyle Busch getting the victory after finishing second to NASCAR’s David Stremme in 2008. Busch got the victory over popular former CRA Super Series Champion Brian Rievley. It was Busch’s fifth attempt to get a victory in the event and add his name to the list of event winners displayed annually on the Winchester 400 T-Shirt
The Winchester 400 Weekend will start off on Friday, October 15th with open practice for all cars. The CRA Late Model Sportsman Series and CRA Street Stocks will have special non-point events on Friday along with the Vore’s Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compacts Season Championship event. Saturday, October 16th will feature Winchester 400 practice and qualifying, plus practice, qualifying and Season Championship features for the CRA Late Model Sportsman Series and the CRA Street Stocks. Saturday night will also feature the 5th Annual Winchester Run for the Gun for the USA Modified Series and a 75-lap feature for the SuperPro Crate Late Model Series. The famous Winchester 400 party will take place on Saturday night after the races.
