As the sold-out crowd from the celebration banquet of 2009 left Jonathan Byrd’s, the talk was already turning to the upcoming campaign. The World’s Home of the Figure 8® has a jam-pack calendar of motorsports events laid out of fans and teams alike. Saturday nights will see the traditional divisions Jiffy Lube Late Models, Scooter’s Auto Sales Stocks presented by Peters Auto Service, Roadrunners, and Hornets. The Friday evening agenda will include the Vogel Dairy Farms Junior Faskarts, Indy Faskarts, Legends, Bandoleros, Hornets, and Hornet Figure 8.
The Chase for the Cup championship excitement will return for the Saturday classes. The format brings the title hunt in each down to the wire to see who takes home the crown. In 2009, the Late Model pursuit had three drivers bumper-to-bumper on the final laps with the points in doubt. And speaking of points, the Stock final tally had just 2 markers between the top duo. The Roadrunner and Hornet division will resume their spilt format sessions leading up to the thrilling Chase for the Cup playoffs.
Besides this Speedrome base proceedings are some wonderful events. There will be six visits each from the famed United States Auto Club as well as the upstart Drift Indy. USAC Midgets will renew their storied history on the famous fifth-mile while the drifting drivers showcase all their car control skills each afternoon. The American Super Cup cars join in on the fun with two upcoming events.
The World Figure 8® Tour has several dates on the 2010 schedule. This series of crossover contests leads up to the granddaddy weekend of all Figure 8 racing the Greatest Figure 8 Race on the Planet®, the 34th Annual World Figure 8 Championship September 9-11, 2009. Several other racing events are currently in negotiations with the Speedrome. They are some of race fans old favorites as well as some new experiences so stay tuned during the off-season for announcements.
America’s busiest short track gets the ball rolling on March 7 with the Spring Fling series. They weave their way through eight full months of events before getting to the Fall Festival championship finale on November 14. During 2010, there is something for every race fan, driver, car owner, crew member, and sponsor at the Indianapolis Speedrome®. We welcome back our loyal fanatics next year and hope you bring a friend next time you visit. Below is just a taste of the major races ahead in twenty ten.
