Eric Evans of Greenfield, Ryan Amonett of New Castle and Kyle Evans of Greenfield won the feature events in their respective divisions at the 4th annual Extravaganza weekend at the Mt Lawn Speedway Saturday night.
Terry Cater led the first two laps of the 100 Late Model main event when his engine went sour possibly with a broken valve spring and was forced from the race. Evans took over and let the next five laps until a lap six double file restart that saw the old veteran LJ Lines of Lewisville out gun Evans into the first turn. Lines held the lead until lap 16 when he pushed up in turn one allowing Evans to recapture the lead and led the rest of the way. It took about 40 minutes to run the first twenty laps because of various accidents but the final 80 lap were ran pretty much caution free. Scott Knepley of Greensboro finished in second position and said in a post race interview he was hoping for a yellow flag near the end because his car was really coming on and thought he may have something for Evans. That caution never came and Knepley was followed by Jeff Marcum of Morristown, Lines, Brandon Mefford of Knightstown, Freddie Hopkins of New Castle, Joe Woodring of Muncie, Rich Segvich of Battleground In., Bill Clark of Rushville, and Randy Anderson of Knightstown to round out the top ten.
The Thunder Car 75 lap feature saw Frankie Oakes of Cambridge City take the lead from the start and lead the first six laps. Neil Marcum took over on lap seven and held the top spot until lap 26 when Kevin Claborn took over. Claborn appeared the class of the field as he built a sizable lead over the twenty laps. However on lap 48 2009 point champion Amonett moved into second and started to reel in Claborn. On lap 61 Amonett drove deeper into the short turn than Claborn and was able to take the lead on lap 62. Amonett held on the rest of the way for the win followed by Claborn, Marcum, Brian Hopkins of New Castle, Shaun Cullen of Anderson, Cody Walker of Sulphur Springs, Oakes, Adam Bolyard of Rushville, Jameson Owens of Greenfield and Tony Stewart of Straughn.
Kyle Evans of Greenfield won the Hornet 50 lap feature leading the final twenty-two laps for the win. Brian Lewis of Indianapolis led the first five laps when Levi McMahon of Noblesville took over and led the five laps. Ryan Amonett making his second start in the Bobby Hicks prepared automobile took the lead on lap 11 but gave it to Keith Morris of Mt Summit on lap 15. Morris’s car developed a right front wheel problem forcing him out of the race giving the lead of the back to Amonett on lap 19. Evans got around Amonett on lap 28 and led the rest of the way for the win. Amonett finished second followed by Joyce Dyer of Greenfield, Kevin Claborn, Jeff Sorrell of New Castle, Jerry Small of Arcadia, Josh White of New Castle, Doug Sorrell of New Castle, Joe Edward of Indianapolis and Mike Alley of Anderson.
Terry Goff finished off his fourteenth U.M.R.A. championship season in style by winning the 50-lap season finale at the Mount Lawn Speedway in New Castle on Friday night.
The eighth win of the season and 111th of Terry Goff’s UMRA career came after a hard fought battle to the finish with Brent Turner who ended up second. Jason Goff was third, Brandon Gray was fourth, and Zach Cougill rounded out the top five.
As a result of his victory, the Terry Goff owned #1 took the 2009 U.M.R.A. Owners Championship by two points over the Oogie Goff owned #96 and by three points over the Oogie Goff owned #19. Terry Goff was the fast qualifier at 16.407 seconds. Heat races were won by Terry Goff, Brent Turner, and Jason Goff. The G&G“Hard Charger of the Race Oil” and the five gallons of fuel went to Terry Goff who went from tenth to first. Certificates to the Dutch Mill Buffet in Milroy went to Terry Goff for his feature win and leading at the halfway point of the 50-lap feature, Brent Turner and Jason Goff for finishing second and third, John Shewbrooks for being the last car running, and Brandon Tweedy for being the first car out.
The management and staff of Mt Lawn would like to thank drivers, fans and sponsors for all of the support helping to make 2009 another successful racing season.
