Ryan Amonett of New Castle continued his record breaking 2009 season Sunday at Mt Lawn Speedway by winning the 125 lap Thunder Car Enduro. Nick Warner of Anderson took the lead at the drop of the green flag and led the first seventeen laps. Eddie Claborn of Cambridge City inherited the led on lap eighteen when the rear end of Warner’s car let go ending his night. Claborn only held the lead for one lap when his transmission broke giving the lead to Eric Evans of Greenfield. Evans held the top spot until lap thirty-four when Johnny Magee of Carthage took over only to have his engine let go going down the backstretch sending him limping into the pits. Evans recaptured the lead on lap thirty-five but gave it up to Amonett on lap forty-eight. On lap sixty-four Mark Eads of Greenfield had his engine let go just past the flag stand putting oil on the track entering the first turn. The cars of Brian Hopkins of New Castle running sixth and Rod Phipps of Anderson running eighth crashed as a result of the Eads oil ending both their nights. On the restart the car of Earl Adams of Pendleton developed a transmission oil leak leaking oil around the track causing another extensive cleanup. One lap latter the engine in the car of William Mefford of Knightstown let go on the backstretch putting more oil on the racetrack. In the Mefford incident Frankie Oakes of Cambridge City was also collected ending his night. The remainder of the race was caution free with Amonett going on to a 3.7 second victory over Evans. Kevin Claborn of Cambridge City finished third followed by Neil Marcum of Morristown, Jameson Owens of Greenfield, Tony Stewart of Straughn, Jason Walker of New Castle, Eddie Chew of Knightstown, Greg Caldwell of Indianapolis and Jeff Marcum of Morristown. Magee set fast time at 18.253 while Jeff Marcum won the Thunder qualifier race.
The fifty lap Hornet feature went to Brian Reynolds of Mooreland. Ronnie Phipps of Anderson took the lead from his outside front row starting position and led the first two laps. On lap three Keith Morris of Mt Summit took over and led the next twelve laps. On lap fifteen Reynolds took over and led the rest of the way. Reynolds received heavy pressure from Kyle Evans of Greenfield but Reynolds proved too strong and Evans settled for second. Brian Lewis of Fairland finished third followed by Brian Cooper of Indianapolis, Josh Neal of Indianapolis, Levi McMahon of Noblesville, Ryan Amonett, Brian Redmond of Farmland, Jessie Holliday of Indianapolis and Tim Dilg of Cincinnati.
Kyle Evans of Greenfield set fast time at 19.829 with Johnny Greer Jr. of Indianapolis winning the Hornet qualifier.
Les Tolliver of Pendleton beat Scott Razor of New Castle in double elimination street drags. Razor beat Tolliver the first time they raced but Tolliver won the next two races.
Next weekend is Mt Lawn’s 4th annual Extravaganza with UMRA midgets going fifty laps in their feature event on Friday night along with Extravaganza time trials and qualifying races. More information is available by calling the track phone at 765-521-4244 or checking out the Mt Lawn website.
