I pulled into the Mottville parking lot about 3:00 p.m. to a line of cars waiting to get in to the quant little speedway called Mottville.

It has been over a year since my last trip into Michiana and I was really looking forward catching up with some old friends and making some new aquantiances.

Racing starts at 4 p.m. this time of year (5 p.m. starting next week) and it was only moments after I pulled in that I saw Merle come down from the Tower and open up the front gate.

Merle said it had been a long time since the MARC Times Racing News had made an appearance at his speedway, but I promised him we’d be back more often.

The first cars to take to the track with the go-karts.  If you are picturing something you might find at your local fun park, you’re going to be surprised.  These are some bad fast race cars.

Watching the karts intently was six-year old Caleb Price.  He is a fan of the karts, especially the red No. 6.  Now, I didn’t see a No. 6 on the track, but Caleb was his biggest fan and was there for him !

Corky Knight became the 4th different Mini Stock feature winner in 4 nights of racing during 2009 at the Mottville Speedway!

Knight, who had been out of racing for 20 years prior to this season, led the first 8 laps of the feaature before Jim Neuman took command.

Knight retook the lead on lap 14 and went to the 25 lap win and $220!

After the race, Knight said “Its been over 20 years since I won a feature race.  I won a checkered flag 20 years ago in a dirt late model at Broadway Speedway.  I was lucky, I didn’t think I’d get the chance to get back up there once the No. 95 got by me.  I really want to thank Doug, one of my co-workers  at Interstate, for giving me the time to come and race.

Neuman settled for 2nd and $160 while Taylor Oberlin was 3rd and took home $120 and Luke Thomas 4th and $95!

Oberlin took over the season points lead with Thomas moving into 2nd.

Troy Allard won his 4th Kart feature of the season with a 15 lap win over Josh Douglas, Chase Allard, Mark Pebler, Marshall Pebler, J.R. Allard and Bailey Douglas.

Josh Douglas and Chase Allard won heats.

Next week we open at 4pm and race at 5pm. Sunday is the rain date.

The MARC Times Racing News & Michigan Racing Scene had a great time at Mottville Speedway and we recommend that you check it out again.
