Sunshine and wind greeted fans and drivers for the 3rd week in a row even with rain in the area again and a strong thunderstorm just before the gates opened. The fans were treated to some great racing. Increased numbers are expected as the summer brings improved weather conditions. The 25 drivers on hand put on a very clean show.
Late Model stand out Josh Ware put on a show that was nothing less than spectacular in the 5 car field. Kim Zenker was on hand as well, but was never a contender as a bent valve in the motor sidelined him shortly after hot laps. Ware would pull the hat trick and pick up the fast time, heat and feature event for his 4th feature win of the season.
Late model feature: Josh Ware,Justin Schalk, Ed Surget, Sam Bohling (DNF brakes), Kim Zenker (DNS motor)
The factory stock class had the low car count tonight as Terry Bisson and Todd Ferguson were on hand. Racing events were shortened for the class to not put to much wear and tear on the equipment. Ferguson would take fast time, but Bisson would take the heat and feature win. Ferguson would not start the feature for unknown reasons.
The pure stock class would have a pretty descent car count with 7 drivers on hand. Stan Chaskey would take fast time honors but the hard charging Ryan Radjewski would take the heat, dash and feature wins. Kris Riley would take the Australian persuit race.
Pure stock feature: Ryan Radjewski, Stan Chaskey, Kris Riley,Dave Morrel, Pat Freel, Ed Knight and Tracy Prow.
The 4 cylinder class would see veteran driver Barry Gokee make his first start of the year in the class, Barry, who is known by fans as Barry Glenn is also a driver in the pure stock class driving for car owner Bill Cryderman. Barry would make it a clean sweep of the nights events by taking fast time, heat, dash, Aussie and feature wins over the 5 car field. Later in the evening his car was entered into the 4 cylinder mechanics race where it would take a runner up spot with me behind the wheel of the number 55 Dodge Neon. If you ever get a chance to get behind the wheel of a 4 cylinder car, they are a blast.
4 cylinder feature: Barry Gokee, Dan Autore, Zach Knight, Tom Gray, Jay McCoy (DNF) Zach Gray (DNF)
The bomber class was the last on the card for the night as 5 cars would make the trip down. Many of the cars that usually run the Speedworld were absent this week due to repairs from the week before. New comer Rich Sangster would take the feature win along with the Aussie, Frank Pelkey would take the heat win and the Dash, but the fast car honors would go to Bill Clement.
Bomber Feature: Rich Sangster, Ken Warner, Bill Clement, Frank Pelkey and Steve Docherty.
I would also like to issue an apology to fans and drivers along with the staff and owners at Onaway Speedworld, about the glitches we have been having with the paper lately. We are working dillegently to fix thing as soon as possible. Also, for the drivers that I misspelled the names of, I will make sure to get things out there correctly so that you get propper recognition.
Enough of the ugly stuff, please join us next week as we will have a great show lined up with the very popular modifieds making the return for the second night of the season. Late models have the night off, but the factory stocks, pure stocks, 4 cylinders and bombers will also be on hand to provide exitement for fans. Also, it will be kids night at the track, where kids will be givin rides in the cars. Gates open at 3p.m., time trials at 5p.m. racing at 7p.m Visit www.onawayspeedworld.com
