No. X1 Justin Robinson, Mt. Pleasant Speedway 2007 and 2008 Late Model Champion:
Q: What do you think 2009 is going to bring to the Mt. Pleasant Speedway?
A: With the change to Hoosier tires I think it will create better racing for the fans and drivers. It should be an exciting year.
Q: When did your racing career start?
A: We started part-time in 2000 and full-time in 2001.
Q: Who was your mentor/teacher/idol before you began racing?
A: My dad (the late Mike Robinson, a former Late Model racer and 1982 Mt. Pleasant Speedway season champion). I grew up watching him race and he taught me a lot about racing and life in general.
Q: Everyone has a “big fish” story or the one that got away. What is your “big fish” story?
A: We’ve had a couple features we should have won but ended up breaking. One specifically was when we were leading the feature at I-96 Speedway early in my career by half of a straight-away when something broke in the motor with only a couple laps remaining. Also, we had a very fast car at the Wood Tic 100 at Merritt Speedway a few years ago and we were lined up to start on the second row of the main event, but when the cars went to pull onto the track from the staging area, the shifting linkage came apart, and therefore it wouldn't go into gear, crushing our best ever chance to date of winning the Wood Tic 100.
Q: Tell me about your favorite or most memorable fan interaction moment.
A: Probably when we went to watch the World 100 at Eldora Speedway last year and we were talking with a few guys from Michigan and they saw our X1 shirt and asked about it. Turned out they were big X1 fans and we ended up talking with them for awhile.
Q: What competitors do you most admire?
A: I respect all my competitors for doing what we do.
Q: Looking into your crystal ball, how do you think the 2009 season will end?
A: Hopefully with some feature wins and top five finishes all year.
No. 15 Rich Robinson Jr., Mt. Pleasant Speedway 1998, 2003, 2005, 2007 Modified Champion
Q: What do you think 2009 is going to bring to your race track(s)?
A: I think 2009 will bring bigger car counts and more fans seeing as how we converted over to the UMP sanction.
Q: When did your racing career start?
A: My racing career started in 1991 at Mt. Pleasant Speedway in the Bomber Class.
Q: Who was your mentor/teacher/idol before you began racing?
A: Richard Petty
Q: Everyone has a “big fish” story or the one that got away. What is your “big fish” story?
A: The one that got away would be the 2007 Driver of the Year award.
Q: Tell me about your favorite or most memorable fan interaction moment.
A: The most memorable was at East Bay in Florida when I blew up a motor and fans from the grandstands came over after the night was over while I was pulling the motor and talked to me and my family for about an hour and helped pull the motor and put the other motor in. Then when I got home I had an e-mail from them thanking us for the hospitality and for letting them help on the race car.
Q: What current competitor of yours do you most admire?
A: Steve Arpin (ARCA RE/MAX driver)
Q: Looking into a crystal ball, how do you think your 2009 season will end?
A: hopefully another track championship added to my resume.
No. 19 Cody Bauer, 2006 Mt. Pleasant Speedway Stock Mini champion, currently 15 years-old and making jump from Modified Mini Stock in 2008 to UMP Modified in 2009
Q: What do you think 2009 is going to bring to the Mt. Pleasant Speedway?
A: Thanks to Betty Crook and Bill Long there will be a lot of new and big races so it should be an exciting year.
Q: When did your racing career start?
A: I started racing at 12 years-old in the Stock Mini class in 2005.
Q: Who was your mentor/teacher/idol before you began racing?
A: My dad (2002 and 2008 Mt. Pleasant Speedway Modified champion Chad Bauer). He has been racing for as long as I can remember.
Q: Everyone has a “big fish” story or the one that got away. What is your “big fish” story?
A: The 2007 (Mt. Pleasant Speedway) track championship when it came down to the feature of the last night and I lost the (Stock Mini) championship by four points
Q: Tell me about your favorite or most memorable fan interaction moment.
A: The most memorable time Ihad with a fan is a little boy who had a birthday that was all about me and he comes over to the pits after every night of racing.
Q: What competitors do you most admire?
A: This year I am hopefully going to be racing against my dad.
Q: Looking into your crystal ball, how do you think the 2009 season will end?
A: This year I am really nervous about running a Modified, but I am excited to be able to race against people like my dad and Rich Robinson Jr. and all of the other top drivers in the class. If I could have a top 10 finish in points I would be really excited
No. 39 Chad Spencer, 2006 Mt. Pleasant Speedway Street Stock champion, moving to UMP Modified in 2009
Q: What do you think 2009 is going to bring to the Mt. Pleasant Speedway? Why did you change divisions?
A: I think 2009 will bring new cars and new fans in the stands since they are joining the UMP sanction. I felt like it was time for me to move up a class.
Q: When did your racing career start.
A: In the summer of 2003 I raced a few races, but became more involved in 2004.
Q: Who was your mentor/teacher/idol before you started racing and why?
A: My dad, he used to race a long time ago.
Q: Everyone has a “big fish” story or the one that got away. What is your “big fish” story?
A: At the Corn Harvest in 2006 I should have won the feature. I got fast time, won my heat, and was leading the feature and a wire shorted out and killed the motor.
Q: Tell me about your favorite or most memorable fan interaction.
A: I had a couple kids and there parents follow us from the Mt Pleasant Speedway to the gas station in town just to get my autograph.
Q: What current competitor of yours do you most admire?
A: Rich Robinson Jr.
Q: Looking into a crystal ball, how do you think your 2009 season will end ?
A: Let’s just hope it starts. (Reference to needing sponsors for the season)
