50th Truck Series Win for Roush at MIS

Race fans at MIS were rewarded with another entertaining NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Racing for the Fans 200 on Saturday. 20 yr. old Colin Braun was able to triumph over  Kyle Busch much to the delight of the crowd. I've always felt that this series has the best racing in all of NASCAR's top three divisions and this one didn't disappoint. The temperatures were cool and the skies looked threatening at the start, but the weather held out and the entire race was run with no disruptions. Unfortunately for the fans, perennial fan favorite and Michigan native Johnny Benson Jr. was let go by Red Horse racing just a few days before the race at Michigan. Benson finally won at his home track at MIS for the first time in 2006, and looked like he was going to be able to repeat last year when Erik Darnell beat him by mere inches in a photo finish.

Acolinbraunmisttrition was brutal in this race as there were multiple incidents and cautions which left only 19 of the 36 starters running at the finish. The racing was frantic throughout the pack as the trucks got four wide for position on more than a few occasions. "Rowdy" Kyle Busch was once again the dominant truck for the majority of the race at the big two-mile oval, leading for 62 of the 100 laps. Kyle ran quite an unusual line for much of the race as he would dive down to the apron when approaching the start finish line on nearly every lap. Busch had built quite a sizable lead earlier in the race, but had Braun right on his tailgate for much of the last third of the event. Colin tried a couple times to pass Busch late in the race, but was unable to make the move stick until a fateful moment on Lap 77. Both Busch and Braun approached the slow running No. 57 truck of Norm Benning, who at that point was running three laps down. The top two split the lapped truck. As Kyle attempted to pass Benning on the inside near the apron he had to back off as he ran out of room, thus letting Colin sweep by on the outside for the lead as the crowd roared. Once in front, Colin was able to put some distance between himself and Kyle and led the last 23 laps as the race went green to the end. Following Braun across the line was Busch, and newcomer Brian Ickler who was driving the Billy Ballew team truck to Busch.

Colin was naturally quite enthusiastic after winning his very first race for Roush Racing. Adding to his pleasure was doing it at their home track in Brooklyn. Roush always has a large group of employees on hand from his many businesses located in nearby Livonia, Mich. Roush Racing has now captured this event at MIS for the third straight year. Not only was Colin able to win his very first race in the Truck Series, he also did it at the home track of his sponsor Con-Way which is located in nearby Ann Arbor. Con-Way had a large contingent of guests on hand cheering enthusiastically for Braun, who was the 2008 Truck Series Raybestos Rookie of the Year.

Braun said in victory lane; "I have to give the credit to Roush Racing. Winning this race at Michigan always means so much to Jack and I am happy I could give them their 50th win in the Truck Series." Truck owner Jack Roush echoed Colin's remarks concerning the 50th win by saying "It was great to do it here with Ford in our back yard and it is great to be here with the home crowd. This is my turf"
