Kinross Speedpark dodged another bullet from Mother Nature on Friday night. With rain in the forecast, the Kinross area managed to avoid any passing showers, allowing both racers and fans to enjoy another great night of racing. All four classes put on a great show with some of the best races of the year taking place.
Ron Etcher set a new track record in the 4 Cylinder class during qualifying, and continued his hot streak in his next two races. Etcher made a last lap pass in the four car dash to earn the win. He also made a great move going four wide on the first lap of the heat race to take the lead and the win. The 4 Cylinder Australian Pursuit race saw Dan Autore pick off one car at a time to take the lead and nearly the win. Autore broke the ¼ second rule in the closing laps and was disqualified from the race. Larry Miller was the only car behind Autore and was awarded the victory. The feature race in this class saw some unbelievable action. Several cars spun on the first lap bringing out the yellow and a complete restart. On the second green flag, many cars spun again, with the Larry Miller car exiting the track in turn two in a spectacular rollover. The field was again realigned, with many cars not taking the green flag. When the checkered was flown, BJ Marcoux was the winner with Dan Autore second. Don Dangler Jr. finished third.
John Clawson dominated again in the Pure Stock class winning every race they had. He was the fast qualifier, and also won the 4 Car Dash. He worked his way to the front in the heat race and took another checkered flag. The feature race saw much of the same as Clawson patiently moved through the field, after starting at the tail end of the pack. Once Clawson got to the front, he was never really challenged for the spot. Clawson took the win with Bill Cryderman second, and Ray Golladay Sr. third.
The Factory Stock class had some close racing from second on back. Todd Jackson had the dominate car with early wins in both the dash and heat race. The first lap of the feature was tight but Jackson went from sixth to first on lap one. Cecil Piche stayed close for most of the race but was not able to challenge for the lead. Cody McLean held off some tough competition for the third spot. Jackson took the win with Piche second, and McLean third.
Tim Aho made his season debut in the Late Model class and started out great. He took the checkered flag in his first race of the year winning the 4 Car Dash. The Late Model heat had some great racing with Josh Ware taking the win. Nine cars took the green flag in the feature. Jerry Artuso and Michael Gold touched on lap one bringing out the yellow and a complete restart. Tim Aho took the lead early at the green and pulled away with Jeremy VanHoek and Josh Ware close behind. The top three cars motored away for awhile before Artuso started making his way up to the group. Ware made several attempts to pass the Aho car but had to go pit side with a mechanical failure. With the field coming to the white flag, Jeremy Van Hoek punted Aho in turn four, knocking him from the lead and contention. VanHoek took the victory with Jerry Artuso second, and Michael Gold third.
Racing action resumes next Friday at the Kinross Speedpark. For more information log onto www.kinrossspeedpark.com.
