Speedway Safety puts you first

Just reading the 2009 schedule for Dixie Motor Speedway is enough to get anyone excited about the new season that is about to begin on Friday May 1st. The new managers, Jeff and Pam Parish, have held nothing back in packing this next year full of fun for the drivers and the fans. The Parish’s have a reputation for being very creative and a whole lot of fun, but one thing they take very seriously is the safety on and around the track. That’s why they hire a special crew called Speedway Safety. Speedway Safety will provide safety trucks, ambulances and state of the art equipment for the races at Dixie Motor Speedway, Owosso Speedway and Whittemore Speedway this season, and it is the Official Safety Crew for the Auto Value Super Sprint Traveling Series. Speedway Safety is family owned and built around the experience and dedication of 15 Michigan State Certified Firefighters, Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics. They are the only team in the state that is certified by the Motorsports Rescue School in Tampa, Florida. Their services include Fire, Rescue and Track Preparation. During an interview with Dixie’s very own Matt Prieur, Speedway Safety Owner Eric Kozel talked about his company. “Through our ad program this year, we were able to buy a second set of Jaws of Life,” Eric said. “We are the only crew in Michigan to have two sets on hand at all times.” Matt asked Kozel what he does when he’s not “racing”. Eric answered, “We have four trucks, two ambulances and a host of equipment. It takes a lot of man-hours to maintain that and keep everything up and running. That’s pretty much what I do. This safety business really is a full time job.” Readers can see Kozel and his crew this Friday night at the Grand Opening of Dixie Motor Speedway under the new management of Jeff and Pam Parish.Opening night will host features for the Pro-Late Models, Modifieds, Street Stocks, Bombers and the Dixie Figure 8’s. It’s a night you won’t want to miss!
