Its in the Blood

Modified Rookie, Scott Quaal of Bridgeport Michigan, is back on the track at Dixie Motor Speedway after a long year of all work and no play.Quaal started racing four cylinder trucks in 2002, and he then won the Owosso Speedway Track Championship in 2005.“I always wanted to race as a kid,” Scott said. “When I turned 18, I just bought a truck and started racing. It’s in my blood now. I’ll always be a part of it.”When Scott is not on the track or maintaining his truck in the small shop at buddy Mike Miner’s house, he is a Journeyman Union Sheet Metal Worker for K-R Metal Engineers of Bay City. Last year Scott finished his four-year apprenticeship and had to postpone racing to focus on his work.“The highlight to last year was the National Sheet Metal Workers Competition in Las Vegas, Nevada,” Scott said. “I placed fifth in the Nation. But it was still a long year without racing. Racing has become Life to me. Without it there’s nothing.I can’t imagine living without all the adrenaline and excitement from the track. I’m itching to get back out there and put on a great show for the fans.”Autograph Nights are as exciting for Quaal as they are for the kids in the grandstands.“Autograph Nights are great,” Scott said. “I love seeing the kids in the car and making them happy.”Over the winter, Scott and friends made the decision to compete in the Modified Division at Dixie this season.“Next to Super Lates, Mods are the fastest thing out there,” Scott said. “And the hardest to drive. I wanted the challenge.”Quaal is looking forward to the 2009 season at Dixie Motor Speedway.“Dixie is close to home,” Scott said. “It has good car counts, great fans, great atmosphere and strong competitors. It should be exciting to go up against other drivers like Chuck Silva. That guy has won two Championships in the last two years. You have to respect a guy like that.”I’m really looking forward to getting back in the seat again, having some fun and trying to win a few!”
