Toledo was the second stop on Michigan Circle Track Sim-Racing League’s fourteen week Fall season for the. The September 3rd race featured eight
drivers taking on the half mile track. Josh Walker of Ringgold, GA. qualified on the pole. Walker, last week’s winner at Galesburg, posted a 16.432 second (109.542 mph) lap. Plainwell’s Tom TerMeer started outside of Walker with a 16.519 second (108.966 mph) qualifying effort. Making his first ever start in the MCT-SRL was Matt Corliss of Kalamazoo, who elected to forego qualifying and started at the rear of the field. Walker led the drivers to the green flag for the start of the 70 lap race. After some initial jockeying for position, it was pretty much a single file event until lap 18, when Doug TerMeer’s No. 91 bumped the No. 0 of Kalamazoo’s Phil Loedeman in turn one. The contact sent Loedeman around, bringing out a caution. Doug TerMeer, who was running third at the time of the incident, was tagged with a speeding penalty after pitting and had to restart at the end of the line.
Walker led the pack to the green again, followed by Tom TerMeer, Matt Corliss and myself. Corliss was able to get under Tom TerMeer after several laps, forcing him up to the high side, where he gave up several positions before he could get back in line. Tom’s brother Doug was charging up through the field after his speeding penalty and by lap 45 had easily passed me for the third position. A few laps later the lapped car of M.T. Johnson came into play and League Administrator Craig Bristol in the No. 3 was able to use that to his advantage after Bristol trading a little paint with my No. 73. Forced up high, it was my turn to watch several more cars pass before I was able to fall into line.
After several laps of great racing, Bristol and Loedeman tangled on lap 58. After getting side by side, the two drivers
wanted the same piece of real estate coming out of turn four and made contact. Loedeman got the position and Bristol running the high line, ended up in the wall, which brought out the caution flag for the second time that evening. After pitting a couple of times, Bristol elected to call it a night. The race restarted on lap 65 with Walker, Corliss and Doug TerMeer in the first through third positions, which they continued to hold as they crossed the finish line. Walker in the No. 83 Krystal Burgers Chevy led ever lap, bringing him back to back wins in the first two races of the new season.
