MARC Times Racing News & Michigan Racing Scene are sad to report that Jim Delarye and family suffered a home fire on Christmas Day.

News out of White Pigeon is the house was a complete loss and both of the No. Dy1an Super Late Models were also lost in the fire Update : The two cars lost were family cars, the race cars were in another garage away from the house and were not damaged (6:11pm 12/26/09). Thankfully, no one from the home was hurt or injured and the West Michigan family is still counting their blessings.

The Delarye Race Team is well known in Michigan racing circles, the team is fielded by brothers Jim and John Delarye. John has been driving race cars since 1988, progressing from Bombers to Enduros, to Street Stocks, and now Super Late Models at Kalamazoo (MI) Speedway.

The Delarye's are very active in West Michigan Racing's "Race for Kids Sake", Jim having lost his son Dylan at age 3 to the disease in 2001.

As people around West Michigan woke up to presents and loved ones, the Delarye family awoke to the devastating effects of a fire.

WMMT-TV Channel 3 in Kalamazoo caught up with Jim Delarye in front of what remains of his family's home.

"When you walk through the house you basically can see the sky," said Delarye. "The Constantine and White Pigeon fire departments went above and beyond the call of duty to help my family," said Delarye.

The fire is believed to have started around 2:00 am Christmas morning in the garage of the family home.

Delarye, along with his wife and four children managed to escape the fire, grabbing whatever they could on their way out.

"We were able to get their presents out," said Delarye, "they have a lot of smoke damage, but the kids are doing good."

Despite the incredible loss, Delarye says he's thankful that his family survived.

"I'm thankful that everybody got out safe," said Delarye.

The family says that for the remainder of the holiday they will be spending time in Indiana with their grandparents.
