Mt. Pleasant Speedway Rules Meeting

mtpleasantspeedwaylogoBetty Crook, Mario Crook, Bill Long and the folks at Mt. Pleasant Speedway held their annual driver's meeting/rules conference on Dec 8th and we attended the event.

There were no big changes announced in the UMP Late Model and UMP Modified divisions.  Drivers from these divisions seemed very happy with how the 2009 season went and MPS announced they had already made the call to stay UMP in those classes and make no significant changes in those classes.  Betty did say they are working to increase the purse and they are going to consider running 20 cars in the features rather then the 16 they currently run in their A-Main's, however, that wasn't set in stone by meetings end.

4-Cylinder Modifieds will see a minimum weight rule in 2010, it is expected to be around 1800lbs, though that was open to some debate at the meeting whether or not that was the right number for the class.  4-Cylinder Modifieds and 4-Cylinder Stocks were put on notice that they could see combined features if car counts don't improve.

In regards to Stock 4-Cylinders, Betty and Bill polled those in attendance about making this class a Front Wheel Drive division, but most of the driver's in attendance didn't feel this was necessary.  There were strong indications that the class name will be changed to Hornets or they might even go UMP Sport Compact.  Mt. Pleasant is seeking to actively recruit additional cars into this class and is strongly considering an increase in the payout to help facilitate.

The biggest changes came in the Street Stock Class where Mt. Pleasant announced their intentions to go 100% UMP with their Street Stocks under the UMP Stock Car rules.  Under UMP Stock Car rules, Mt. Pleasant Street Stocks would see some opening of the rules compared to what they ran in 2009, with screw jacks and spoilers becoming legal in addition to better cylinder heads and rear ends being allowed.  The complete rules package will be made available on the Mt. Pleasant Speedway website in the coming days, but long story short -- drivers in the class are going to see rules which mirror UMP Stock Car rules and which will put MPS on the same footing as Thunderbird, Winston and I-96 in regards to this rule package and car competitiveness.

There were close to 50 drivers in attendance with drivers from all classes.
