The MARC Times Racing News & Michigan Racing Scene is very proud to announce Kankakee County Speedway has joined our network of featured short tracks.
Kankakee County Speedway which started the season with high hopes only to see its season end prematurely, has been brought back to life by Plymouth Speedway co-owner and Superpro Driver Tom Smith.
New Promoter at Kankakee County Speedway, Tom Smith met with nearly 30 track employees and 150 drivers, crews, and car owners last night to discuss his vision for the revival of Kankakee County Speedway, and while there were just a few grumblings over some ideas, most of his ideas, knowledge, and enthusiasm were met with approval.
Among some of Smitty's ideas were to make slight cuts to all the payouts, a trend he sees continuing at other area tracks as well if they are to survive this economic downturn. However, a bonus money incentive plan will be put into effect that rewards drivers based on fan turnout. Consequently, the more the merrier!
Also, UMP modifieds will no longer be qualifying on regular race nights, but will qualify if they are running a headlining special. All track rules and points will remain in effect and be honored with some changes being forecasted for 2010.
Plans are in motion to open the gates again on Friday night, July 24th for a regular night of racing for all classes. Because the Kankakee County Fair Board is already preparing for the upcoming County Fair, the temporary fencing has been removed. Thus, patrons will be asked to pay $20 per carload at the main gate instead of purchasing individual tickets at the grandstand gates.
This will no doubt be a perfect opportunity to invite your friends, neighbors, and co-workers out to the track for a night of exciting dirt stock car racing action at a minimal cost. The important thing here is to get others involved and interested in the sport at the grass roots level. "The entertainment dollar is the hardest to come by right now with this economy, so everyone has to do everything they can to promote their tracks and themselves (drivers) to fill the stands," said Smith.
In regards to the MARC Times Racing News & Michigan Racing Scene, Smith said "The paper is vital to our communications and it is a service to racers and fans alike. Bringing Kankakee into the network of (MCT) tracks was a no-brainer".
