Yes, spring is just around the corner and that means Racing Season is opening its gates once again across this beautiful State of Michigan.
I, am so excited to hear the roar of the engines and the smell of octane in the air. With the economy the way it is, think about hitting your local racetrack for a wonderful family oriented night of racing, at a cost that the family can afford.
You never know, you just might be watching the next Jeff Gordon or Tony Stewart. Michigan has some great racecar legends. Have you ever heard of Johnny Benson (2008 Craftsman Truck Series Champion) or how about the legend, Butch Miller who has 3 ASA titles and at the young age of 56 is still driving in the Nascar Circuit.
Have you ever wanted to meet your favorite racecar driver? You can right here at your local track.
After the evening's races the tracks open the pit areas so you can go meet a driver, a crewmember, or even officials. By the way, racecar drivers, these days, are driving stockcars at the early age of 13 and racing against drivers 3-4 times their age.
The racing is aggressive each and every weekend. Then add in School Busses, Trailer Races and yes folks even Porta Potty Races!
Last summer for the 1st time I took my 3 year old grandson to his 1st race with the figure 8 school busses at Spartan Speedway. During the race, the busses hit and one bus flipped on to its side. The driver climbed out, with the crowd yelling and cheering. My grandson turned to me and yelled “Did you see that?” Later after the figure 8 school bus race was over and we had a winner, my grandson was able to get on the bus, meet the driver and was given a souvenir from the race. My grandson may be what some call a “motor head” at the ripe old age of 3 and has never forgotten that night and neither will I.
Come on spring, let’s get this racing season going and making memories last in the child within ourselves and our families. Can’t wait to meet you all at your local track this year!
