Living Life at Full Throttle

Dirt flying, the wind rushing through my hair and two boys on Big Wheels eating my dust: that's my first memory of racing.  Yes, I was on a purple tricycle with a flowered seat, but I was on a dirt track and I was out front, that's what really matters. I spent most of my youth either at a Tri-Sport track, in the garage, at a car show, or watching NASCAR with my dad. My love for cars and auto racing was inevitable.fullthrottle

My favorite NASCAR driver? That would have to be Cale Yarborough. One of the highlights of my life was meeting him, Richard Petty, Buddy Baker and Richard Childress back in the late '80s. Even then, they were all just a bunch of regular guys having a good time. I love that about racing.

In the '90s, I studied philosophy at Western Illinois University and put the automotive world on the back burner of my life for nearly 15 years. Those were dark and dreary days. I hope that none of you ever have to go through anything as horrible as that, ever!

Then, the clouds parted and the sun came shining through in 2006. Suddenly, I was hanging at Angola Motor Speedway, writing about the drivers from Williams County, Ohio (AKA the Ohio Posse!), and getting paid a little bit of moolah for it, too.  The Bryan Times newspaper let me develop news coverage for the local racing scene, and life was good.

I call it Living Life at Full Throttle.

Sharing a good story with great fans is what writing is all about to me. I can't wait for this season to get started!
