They're doing it right at Dixie

Efficiency. Cohesiveness. Coordination and effectiveness. They're all great descriptors for a smooth running race team. They're even better descriptions of the way things are working today at Dixie Speedway.

Jeff and Pam Parish have brought their unique style and effective team to Birch Run. While the Kern family built a reputation for family entertainment at Dixie, the change - and Parish touch - is welcomed at the four-tenths mile oval.

Don't misunderstand my complement. It's still a very family friendly show. Under the watchful eye of the Parish's the show quickly moves along. There are very few quiet moments on the track and even when the action slows, track announcer Matt "Hollywood" Prieur is there to break the silence and keep the crowd excited.

While I'm on the subject of "Hollywood," I want to personally thank the Parish's for putting him back behind the microphone. He has long been one of the best. And I believe there is no one who can get a crowd fired up the way he can. Matt's ability to introduce a grid of cars before a feature, add his own tidbits of information about each driver, and count them down to the "3, 2, 1...Gentlemen, Start Your Engines" is unmatched.

His abilities are recognized by those in the know. Last Friday evening while taking in the action at Dixie, I had a lengthy conversation with Eugene Reinbold, father of long-time Super Late Model competitor Jay Reinbold. Eugene commented several times about "Hollywood" and his knowledge of the sport.

"He seems to have a real good feel for what's appropriate and when to say it," Mr. Reinbold said. "Not a lot of announcers at these tracks can get it right the way 'Hollywood' does."

Not a lot of people get it right the way they are today at Dixie either.

In between practice and qualifying last Friday, I snuck in a few words with Pam Parish - who by the way belts out a fantastic rendition of the National Anthem.

I shared with her my fondness for the two tracks she and Jeff now manage. I cut my racing teeth so to speak at Owosso Speedway (their other venue). Dixie is rapidly becoming "home" for me on Friday nights.

Pam shared her perception early on in ownership that Dixie seems to be very much a fan favorite, while Owosso seems to be very much a drivers' favorite. I asked her which she preferred, and she quickly answered, "that's like asking which child I love more. It's not a choice you can make."

One thing is easy to answer, however, when it comes to which owners are quickly becoming both fan and driver favorites, Jeff and Pam Parish are rapidly moving to the top of the list.
